About SUEZ

SUEZ is a facilities management business in the UK, operating a large frontline workforce where employee wellbeing is closely tied to workplace safety and performance.

Why did SUEZ need Stream?

Financial wellbeing was already a key pillar of SUEZ's employee wellbeing charter, but the business recognised the growing connection between financial wellbeing, mental wellbeing and workplace safety across its frontline workforce.

At the same time, SUEZ wanted to provide more practical support to employees while reducing the administrative burden of its existing earned wage access provider.

The previous solution relied on manual processes, weekly reporting and significant administration for the HR team.

"Financial wellbeing and mental wellbeing are super important because of our roles. If their mind is busy worrying about finances, they're not going to be able to put all their focus on the job in hand."
Michelle Sutton · Head of Reward & Pensions, SUEZ

What challenges did Stream solve?

SUEZ wanted more than earned wage access. The business was looking for a platform that could support employees throughout different stages of life, combining savings, financial education, wellbeing support and flexible pay in one place.

When its previous provider experienced security issues, Stream accelerated implementation and helped ensure employees experienced no disruption to support.

"It was the entire offering… and Stream were able to switch it on immediately for us. The collaboration and partnership made sure nobody was affected negatively. There's very little work. Resource-wise, that's brilliant."
Michelle Sutton · Head of Reward & Pensions, SUEZ

What measurable outcomes were achieved?

What was the business impact?

- Turning savings into a habit

SUEZ has increasingly focused on helping employees build long-term financial resilience through savings, with savings deposits growing by 95% year-on-year. Employees now save an average of £71 per month, and following the launch of External Deposits, more than £200,000 was deposited in a single month, demonstrating growing engagement with longer-term financial planning.

"People who are saving have slightly less sickness absence, but more importantly, they are feeling less stressed and their return to work is much quicker. For an employer to dismiss results like less stress and improved financial wellbeing, it's a no-brainer." Michelle Sutton, Head of Reward & Pensions, SUEZ

- Supporting frontline employees

For SUEZ, financial wellbeing is closely linked to employee wellbeing and workplace performance. The business believes helping employees reduce financial stress allows them to focus on the job at hand, particularly in operational and safety-critical environments.

"Health and safety is key. If employees are worrying about finances, they're not able to put all their focus on the job in hand."
Michelle Sutton · Head of Reward & Pensions, SUEZ

- Creating a culture where money conversations are normal

Regular wellbeing webinars, podcasts and employee communications have helped make financial wellbeing part of everyday conversation across SUEZ. Employees actively recommend Stream to colleagues, helping drive sustained engagement nearly four years after launch.

"People do recommend it to each other. When you make everyday conversation about money and finances, people are more comfortable talking about it."
Michelle Sutton · Head of Reward & Pensions, SUEZ

- Giving employees more choice

Rather than relying on a single provider, SUEZ gives employees access to a range of financial wellbeing and rewards tools. The philosophy is simple: different employees need different support at different stages of life.

By offering multiple ways to save money, build savings and access support, SUEZ gives employees the flexibility to choose what works best for them.

"Not everyone wants every benefit. Different things happen to people at different times of their life."
Michelle Sutton · Head of Reward & Pensions, SUEZ

- Benefits employees don't want to leave behind

For SUEZ, financial wellbeing is about more than helping employees manage their money today. It's about creating an employee experience people genuinely value.

One employee who left the business later chose to return, citing the strength of SUEZ's benefits offering as a key reason for coming back.

"One of our employees left and came back. She said she came back because the benefits were much better. She felt like SUEZ genuinely cared about her."
Michelle Sutton · Head of Reward & Pensions, SUEZ
"I truly believe that if you're not working with Stream, you're not in the right place."
